Class Descriptions

Bitty Combo: A fun and engaging introduction to dance for young movers! Young movers will explore rhythm, creative movement, basic motor skills all while learning beginner ballet and tap technique in a playful, age-appropriate environment. Students must be 3 years old and potty-trained to enroll.

Kinder Combo: Designed for TK and Kindergarten students, this combo class builds on foundational skills with continued development in tap and ballet technique. Dancers will also explore creative movement, coordination, and motor development in a fun, confidence- building environment.

Ballet: Dancers will learn classical ballet technique with a strong focus on vocabulary, proper alignment, muscle development, and progressive skill building — all while developing poise, grace, and discipline.

Ballet/Lyrical: Intermediate and advanced levels will begin to blend elements of contemporary and lyrical movement into weekly technique classes and choreography, encouraging expressive artistry alongside technical growth

Hip Hop & Commercial: This high-energy class explores a variety of street and commercial dance styles, including jazz funk, basic breakdancing, social dances, and more. Dancers will build rhythm, coordination, musicality, and stage presence while learning choreography inspired by music videos and live performances. A fun class for students who love to move with attitude and confidence!

Jazz: This upbeat, high-energy class focuses on classic jazz technique while building strength, agility, precision, and performance skills. Dancers will work on leaps, turns, stylized movement, and expressive choreography — all while developing confidence, coordination, and stage presence. A dynamic class that combines technique with attitude and flair!

Tap: Students will develop tap technique with a strong emphasis on rhythm, musicality, and sound clarity. Dancers will explore Musical Theater tap and modern Rhythm Tap styles while learning combinations that challenge timing, coordination, and expression.

Pre-Pointe: Pre-Pointe is a ballet-intensive class focused on strength, alignment, placement. It is ideal for students looking to enhance their ballet foundation and is required for those preparing to transition to dancing en pointe. Students must also enroll in ballet/lyrical class.

Pointe: This class is for advanced ballet students who have demonstrated the necessary strength, technique, and consistency required for pointe work. Placement is by audition/instructor approval only.

Strength, Conditioning, & Flexibility (SCF): This class help dancers build the strength, control, and flexibility needed for safe and powerful movement. Through targeted exercises and drills, dancers will improve stamina, muscle tone, balance, alignment, and range of motion. Perfect for dancers looking to enhance performance, prevent injury, and take their technique to the next level.

Team & Prep: Designed for dancers preparing for high school and collegiate dance teams, this class focuses on the essential skills needed for team auditions and performances. Dancers will train in pom, kick, hip hop, leaps, turns, and performance style, building strength, precision, and confidence for the next level.

Acro: This class combines dance technique with acrobatic/tumbling skills, focusing on strength, flexibility, balance, and coordination. Students will learn tumbling, balances, and transitions designed to enhance body control and overall movement quality. Acro is a fun and challenging way to develop athleticism while expressing creativity through dance.

Class Level & Placement

Yume Dance Studio encourages individual growth and positive self-esteem while learning new skills and developing proper, safe technique. Yume determines student level based upon ability, experience, and approximate grade level. Contact our office to find the best fitting level for your child.

General placement guidelines:


INTRODUCTORY LEVEL

Bitty Combo: Ages 3-6. Students must be 3 years old and potty-trained before enrolling.
Kinder Combo: Kindergarten and TK students.

PRIMARY LEVEL

Debut: 1st - 2nd grade students
Premiere: 3rd-5th grade students.

INTERMEDIATE LEVEL

Mainstage: 5th-8th grade students
(5th graders with instructor approval)
Centerstage: Middle School and High School

ADVANCED LEVEL

Spotlight: audition/invite only
Encore: audition/invite only
These are advanced level classes. Placement in Spotlight or Encore is by audition and instructor approval.

SPECIALTY CLASSES

Team & Prep: Middle School and High School Students
PrePointe: Middle School and High School students.
Pointe: Middle School and High School students with instructor approval
SCF (Strength, Conditioning, Flexibility): ages 10+

ACRO CLASSES

Intro to Acro ages 3-6
Levels 1,2,3,4 ages 5+
Levels 5,6,7,8 ages 8+
Levels 9+ ages 12+

Students will be placed in levels based teacher evaluations and skills mastered

All class placement is at the discretion of Yume Dance Studio staff and teachers. New students may be asked to come in for a placement/trial class before final registration to ensure the best fit.
